Both settings live in the Parent Area, under What your child sees. Both are off to begin with, for every new account.
Encouraging messages
Short, friendly notes that appear as your child works — a nudge after a good run, a kind word after a hard one.
Some children are lifted by them. Others find them distracting, or hollow after the tenth time. You know which yours is.
The leaderboard
Shows your child roughly where they stand against other children using TransferNI.
It is worth being precise about what it does and does not show, because this is the setting parents ask about most:
- It shows a band — roughly where your child sits — not a league table
- It never shows another child's name
- It never shows another child's score
- No other family can see your child's name or score either
If your child is motivated by competition, it can be a spur. If they are anxious about the assessment, leaving it off costs them nothing — it has no effect on the practice itself.
Changing your mind
Either switch can be turned on or off at any time, as often as you like. Nothing is lost by switching one off — the practice, the points and the badges all carry on exactly as before.
